My research interests span the fields of robotics, image-processing and surgical navigation. As part of my PhD, I developed an active steerable catheter and control algorithms to perform haptics-enabled, robot-assisted catheter insertion for angioplasty and cardiac ablation. As part of my postdoctoral training at BWH and MGH, I developed navigation algorithms for tracking and displaying the instrument tip position and shape in a 3D patient-specific anatomical display for clinical applications including per oral endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, lung wedge resection, breast conserving surgery, parathyroidectomy and ureteroscopy. This has further been used in a number of other surgical procedures in the state-of-the-art operating suite, AMIGO.
